The purpose of the Center for the Study of Institutional Diversity is to build on and extend existing theories of institutional development and change in the context of linked Social-Ecological Systems (SES) and to test propositions related to the performance characteristics of different types of institutions when used in relation to different classes of ecological systems. The center will eventually include faculty and graduate students who are skilled in diverse ethnographic and field work, archival activities, mathematical and agent-based modeling, and experimental research related to empirical studies of linked SES's related to water, forests, pastures, and other resource systems.
